DUES INCREASE APPROVED BY MEMBERS

A $300 dues increase has been approved by a majority of our members. Invoices for the 2009 dues, reflecting this increase, will be mailed in November with a payment deadline of December 31st. The CDK Board appreciates the understanding and support shown by this vote.

The Board also appreciates the many helpful comments and suggestions from members who completed the survey on the ballot sheet. You have provided the Board with an excellent base for making decisions in the months ahead. On almost every survey, our social events (theme parties and Tiki Tuesdays) were listed as the things members liked best about the Club. We are truly blessed to have so many volunteers willing to put their time and effort into making these events so popular.

TAKING CARE OF BUSINESS

The Board has hired entirely new crews to take care of the Club s facilities. Hanf Pool Service has taken over maintenance of the pool and spa, while J. D. Spiering of Florida Keys Landscaping will be tending the grounds and the tennis courts. Cleaning of the Clubhouse and Cookhouse is being done by Molly Dyer (daughter of Rob). Becky Townsend has agreed to serve as our summertime security person, making daily checks to be certain all is in order.

CLOSING OUT A GREAT SEASON

April and May were busy months at the Club with a flurry of social events prior to the annual Snow Bird migration.

On April 5th, Becky Townsend and her committee rolled out the red carpet, converted the Clubhouse into an elegant upscale restaurant and served a six-course French dinner. Of special note were the wine bottles with custom-made labels bearing the message: "Club Duck Key Wine Makers are very famous, using only fresh ingredients."

Three nights later, the Poker Club sponsored Tiki Tuesday on April 8th in honor of Poker Queen Anna Lockwood' s birthday. Sue & Chuck Rickards were in charge. On April 13th, a water balloon battle and a rubber duck race entertained a crowd of members attending a Sunday afternoon poolside grill party. Social Committee co-chairs, Lois Morrell and Marilou Nicol, hosted the free event to show appreciation for our many hard-working volunteers.

Thanks to the outstanding job of Joanne Enquist and her committee, the popular Ethnic Festival and Marketplace on April 19th produced a profit of $1300 for the Club! A delicious selection of ethnic foods was prepared and served by our own master chefs - Merlynn & Jim Boback, Bill Cunningham, Helen Cunningham, Bob & Jean Delaney, Roy Enquist, Jerry Fortier, Ron Johnston and Adam Mink. We want to thank Jean Lyon for her wonderful Greek presentation.

On April 25th, the Water Aerobics Group sponsored the final Ladies Luncheon of the season with a menu featuring gazpacho and chicken salad.

Then, on May 3rd, Tommy & Kay Lyons hosted our first-ever Kentucky Derby Party complete with masses of red roses, real Mint Juleps, imported Country Ham and biscuits, a Ladies' Hat Contest, conch shell blowing competition and a professionally managed betting set-up. Many thanks to the Lyons and all their visiting pals from Kentucky!

Finally, on May 13th, members gathered for a Tiki Tuesday farewell to those who leave for the summer. Hosts were Joe & Jo Ann Orr, Tony & Stephanie Ingram and Steve & Fran Showerman.

HAVE A GREAT SUMMER. SEE YOU AT THE CLUB NEXT FALL!
